Phenomenal Thoughts On Becoming A Telecommuting Mum

As parents, you might ask yourself whether you are doing the right thing if you really want to travel, but are not absolutely sure if it’s the appropriate thing to do.

Is there a little inner parent in you thinking it could be unsettling for your children, are you worried about what your family will think, what about school, what about education, what about the ‘normal’ life?…

You’re not the first to think this way. I remember the time that I found out that I was pregnant and I walked over to a place called “Sunset Cocktail,” which is on the banks of the Nile River in Luxor and ordered a drink at this small cocktail bar on the river and watched the sun go down by myself; by the way, I really needed a drink! (I was only a few weeks preggo), thinking at the time this was going to have to be the end of my travels… That I was going to be a mum now, so I would have to do the responsible thing, go back to the UK, settle down, get back into the ‘system’ and I was very sad about it. I knew that to go back there would make me unhappy, but I was really not sure that I had any other choice. During that evening many thoughts crossed my mind, and when I left the bar, I had totally made my mind up, that wherever I went, this baby was coming with me, and I wasn’t going to spend the next 16 years back in the UK!

Here are the thoughts that I formulated that night…

Thought #1 Isn’t This MY Life Still?

Whether you have 1 child or 10, you need to always remember that you have a life too, and your children aren’t going to be very happy if you aren’t. I absolutely hated the lifestyle in the UK and why should I imagine that my children would think otherwise?

Of course I would never put my child in any harm’s way and I would always make sure that he had somewhere to stay, and experienced those books, toys and games, nice clothes, celebrations of Christmas, birthdays, Oreo’s (as my kids are half American), Thomas the Tank Engine episodes on the TV, etc. The most important thing is of course the Love of a mother and you should remember that all of these important things can be sourced pretty much wherever you are. And to take advantage of this kind of opportunity quickly, seriously consider taking on someone looking into virtual assistant certification on their own, or even a team looking into virtual assistant certification for business, to help you get everything up-and-running fast!

I still have to live MY life, I just had another addition to take care of.

Thought #2 What Does Staying In One Place Have To Offer?

Look all around you and ask yourself what that place really has to offer you? The trappings of life in the Western world sometimes blind us to the material things that we think we need, such as cars, retail shops and so on, but if you deduct all that, what does your current location actually offer you? Your absolute basic needs can be met, no matter where you are located. 3. How Would Friends and Family View This?

For any of you who are currently not digital nomads, I would say leaving Family and Friends would be very hard… but the way technology is these days, nobody is ever too far away. You can have a conversation for free on Skype over webcam with your nearest and dearest, as if they were in the next room!

The world is really a small place and you can travel around it all in just a few days, so leaving a country doesn’t mean that you are leaving behind those important relationships and you should remember that.

It sounds a little harsh, but it doesn’t really matter what your family and friends think. They’re almost certain to be supportive of whatever you really want to do deep down inside, so long as you express this to them.
