Split Testing and Why it is a Must
Split-testing is a crucial component for any serious Internet marketer, especially when it comes to pay per click advertising. Split-testing allows advertisers to fine tune their ads and marketing schemes. Anyone who understands marketing knows split-testing is essential to their success online. But for those who aren’t familiar with marketing and what split-testing is all about, here’s an overview for you with a focus on pay per click advertising.
First thing’s first, you have to find a product, do some keyword research, and write an ad that you think will not only generate clicks, but will also generate sales. If you are doing this, then you’re on the right track.
So now the question is “Can I do better?” The answer is yes and the solution is Split-Testing.
When you have just one ad running, you don’t really know what is working. Enter split-testing. This means that you will create a similar ad to the one that you have already created. Now you play the game called “Beat the Control.” This makes your work more exciting by presenting a daily challenge that will pay off in a big way in the long run. You do this by simply creating a new alternate headline that you think will beat the current one. You can also try to beat the current ad body or URL.
A couple examples of what you would split-test more specifically with you pay per click ad is making your headline a question against an intriguing statement and see which one pulls better. Or when it comes to your URL, try a couple different ones and see which one has a better response. Understand the URL is thought to be a possible solution for what the prospective buyer is looking for.
And that’s split-testing for you in a nutshell. So from there, you are going to run each of your ads for about 30 clicks each, which should give you a large enough sample to show you what’s working and what isn’t. Simply drop the ad that is performing worse. Now you have a new control and the games starts over. Create a new ad that builds on what you just learned from your split-test and try to beat the control.
Continually repeat the entire process and in the long run, you will constantly improve your ads. This will no doubt bring you more clicks and more sales. Remember to always track everything you do.
So now you’re ready to start your split-testing program. There is always more to learn, but this should provide a great base on your pay per click advertising. Remember, Beat the Control and have fun.
