We all have application software running on our PC.   This is now a regular occurrence on most people’s computers and most of us take this for granted.  However, oftentimes we are surprised or shocked when an app fails.   In reality, however, we should not be surprised if we have a software failure and we did not take adequate steps to prevent it.

Running secure applications simply means doing all the things that it takes to ensure adequate protection from unauthorized access, correct storage and maintenance procedures.  This will sustain an application that will not only be there when you need it but one that will perform in the manner intended by the creator.  If we look at the acquisition of an application from purchase to installation to extended usage this picture should become pretty clear.

When you purchase an application you should make sure that its compatibility is, indeed, a match for the requirements of both your PC and your operational needs.  Most software vendors have a website that often gives you a choice of not only operating platforms – i.e. PC or Mac – but they have selectivity on Operating System and even release level of PostScript Drivers, etc.  This mean downloading the exact version that is right for you.   Redoing this can be very problematic.

Next, ensure that you have a valid, correct and successful installation.   All great apps now come wrapped in a quality install subsystem.

However, again, there are variances that you should be aware of how the install is done both from a brevity – some applications now allow for a quick install – as well as the degree of specification – i.e. whether Standard or Custom.  If you are an experienced user of this or this type of application you may already have preferences for its execution that manifest themselves in how the app is installed.  If you do not have experience with the app or are a novice user of the type of program it is, always opt for the Standard installation.

If you get to the expert level on the app and need to have access to features only provided via a Custom install, you can always go back and uninstall/reinstall the app.

Be sure to keep the application current and, when appropriate, download and install the newer versions.

You should back up not only the data files associated with its usage but you should also make a subsequent copy of – and desktop access to – the installed application.

One of the things you can do to minimize your exposure to data loss and cyber crime is to purchase and download a top registry software package that cleanses your registry of bogus records automatically.  They also do the other registry fix functions that accomplish any needed Registry Repair.
