Celebrating the Groundhog Day
Several religions call this holiday differently. For Catholics, this celebration is considered as the Candlemas. However, for other and a bigger percentage of people all over the world, this is what they call, the Groundhog Day, which has been celebrated to many years already, even way back the time of the Celts .
On February 2, which is the date that the Groundhog Day is celebrated, is the middle of the winter solstice and the spring equinox; it is around this time of the year that the groundhogs are supposed to come out from under the ground, from where they hibernated during the winter season to see how the weather is. As stated by a famous folklore, whenever the hog went out and saw some shadows casted by the sun, they became frigthened and would go back to their hibernation place under the ground, then with this, and as people believe in this folklore, there will be another six weeks of winter.
There are several events organized for this day. It is best to check the schedule of activities lined for this holiday from their official Groundhog Day Website.
