Implementing your strategic marketing plan can be done two different ways; pay for someone else to do it all or learn how to market and do it yourself. While paying for it is going to be the quickest way, it will not always be the most effective. Doing all of your marketing yourself can be the way to go if you are a small business. However in my opinion, a combination of both is best. If you learn how to market, and pay someone else to do some of it for you, you can keep costs down and also be able to make sure the people managing your campaigns are giving you the most for your money.

Decide on your niche market and focus on geo-targeting

This is a the most crucial part of your marketing plan. If you fail here, your plan will fail entirely. If you don’t reach your target demographic, you will not receive the response that you need. The more precise your marketing towards your niche is, the more qualified your customers will be when they reach your doors.

What methods of marketing do you want to use?

Deciding what different avenues to use for your marketing will depend a lot on your geo-targeting. If you intend to market a product or service that absolutely everyone will need, then using mass marketing techniques will likely yield you the best results. Don’t assume that television or radio is the best way to reach people these days though. The internet allows you to reach out to a much larger group in a much shorter amount of time. Methods of marketing are endless, especially on the internet, so pick wisely, or you stand to waste a lot of time and money.

When do you plan on implementing each marketing method?

Obviously you are going to use multiple methods to market your product or service. Putting them all into effect at the same time could give you results that are either extremely impressive or extremely depressing. Typically you want to stagger your marketing so that way you can more easily manage your different marketing campaigns. Some different campaigns may work hand in hand with one another so you will need to decide which will give you the best results together.

Split test and Improve

Let’s face it, even with a perfectly executed strategic marketing plan, some of your campaigns are bound to fail miserably. Failure is a part of business. Get used to it, and learn from your mistakes. With every type of marketing you use, whether radio ads or banner advertisements on Myspace, try two different designs. Whichever performs better, keep it, toss the other idea out, and make slight changes to the winner and test it against itself, as well as other advertisements. Continue doing this for the entire life of your company. Your marketing will only get better and result in more sales.
